Poem: I am desire

I am desire By Maggie Moore

I am desire incarnate
Spawn from the belly of a beast
A Progeny of sinful deeds
I am desire personified
The impious, licentious creation of dust
A shameless, brazen, image of lust
Created by manipulation and exploitation of trust
I am a duplicate, counterfeit, fake ass version
Of someone else’s pain
My counselor, mentor, professor of shame
Taught me, trained me, qualified me
To wish for, to yearn for, to need more
Of his touch
But I was just a child
Too blameless, too guiltless, too ingenuous
To lust
I was a block of clay
Molded, fashioned and formed
By the dirty hands Of little boys scorned
That knew what they should not have known
And so I’ve grown
I have multiplied and intensified
From a spark into a flame
Unbridled passion that cannot be tamed
Still playing the hand Of another man’s game
A rampant, prevalent, blatant fire
Consuming, awe-inspiring, passionate liar
Cynical, exhausted, jaded and tired
I am crushed, shattered, broken and bruised
I am cast-off, recycled, worn and used
I am smashed, crashed, damaged and destroyed
Invalidated, negated, barren and void
I am a product of someone else’s pain
Playing a hand in someone else’s game
Carrying the weight of someone else’s shame
Game over
I am throwing in my cards,
Lord Deal me anew
Heal me, restore me, make me like you
Mold me, fashion me and form again
Into a mother, a wife, a lover and a friend
Into a rampant, prevalent, blatant fire
Liberated Emancipated Released entire
Forgiving and Forgiven
I am desire
